My name is Jo Canning and I have been a primary teacher for 12 years in both the state and independent sectors and a specialist private tutor of primary English for a further 12 years. I have a 1st class honors Bachelor of Arts Degree with (QTS) from Warwick University. I am also a TEFL accredited teacher. 

I am a creative thinker who is passionate about giving children the opportunities to learn and succeed. I believe that learning should be engaging, purposeful, memorable and fun. I love to bring energy and enthusiasm, inspiring children to become excited about their learning and to become problem-solvers who think outside the box, develop new ideas and fully express themselves. The variety of games and interactive methods that I use have a proven track record for success, enabling children to become fluent readers and writers. 

Inspiring confidence underpins all that I do and is the most valuable outcome of tuition. It is so important that children feel listened to, valued and understood. Being able to try new things and learn from mistakes is such an important life skill, creating resilience and determination. My sessions give children the space to express their struggles and ideas through learning in a creative environment which is free from the pressures of the classroom. They will discover their ability to become confident individuals, who are able to approach new tasks with courage and perseverance. 

Getting to know children as individuals is so important to the success of my tuition business. As an experienced teacher, I understand that children think and learn in different ways, responding better when activities are relevant and meaningful to them. Therefore, each session is tailored to meet your child’s individual needs and learning style, focusing on their interests and passions. This motivates them to achieve and creates the opportunities for confidence to be built.

English is such an important subject, which if taught well, can change a child’s life for the better. It provides the stepping stones to educational success, develops criticial and creative thinking, enables communication, effective collaboration, emotional development, connection with others and awareness of self.  My aim is to make this journey of discovery exciting, enjoyable and effective for your child.
